Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows; It empties today of its strength. Corrie ten Boom
The Bible tells us to “be anxious in nothing”. Wow! That’s a huge command. Might as well go on a 40 day fast…WITH NO COFFEE!!! Close to impossible I say, because there is so much to be anxious about. Let’s see you have–my money–my waistline–and there’s my money–dinner–Trump’s next tweet–and oh, did I mention my money?
Of course there’s also health and relationships–and of course my money.
What worry does…
Pardon the futile attempt at humor because I know this worry stuff is really important. I mean what would we do if we didn’t worry. How would we fill that void.
Worry creeps up when I least expect it. I can be in the best frame of mind and then KABOOM, I’m blindsided by an event, a report, or the concern of another. What had been a promising day is reduced to one that is consumed with–worry.
Worry is not pleasant. It kills both time and energy. It produces nothing. It destroys positive energy and weakens commitment. There is only one thing that can save me from worry. There’s only one thing that can kill worry. It’s worry’s Kryptonite.
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1 NIV)
Faith is hope, worry is anxiety. Faith is trust, worry is doubt. Faith is great expectations, worry is fear of what lies ahead.
I know you’ve heard this, but I’m gonna say it anyway. “Fear not” is mentioned in the Bible 365 times, one for everyday of the year! When you woke this morning you had a command to “fear not”! That means no worries today!
Today is the most important day of your life because it is the only one that you have control over. Yesterday is in the books, tomorrow may never get here, today is your day. Why would you want to ruin it with fear of something out of your control?
Aha! I think I’m on to something. Perhaps that’s why I worry. I worry because I have no control. I can’t affect the outcome and that wears on me. It ruins my day.
Don’t Worry, Be Happy…
“This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalms 118:24 NLT)
God has given you today to enjoy. There are too many forces trying to ruin it with bad news. Destroy their schemes by applying your faith. Tap into your measure provided and renew yourself in God’s promises.
to meet all our needs (Philippians 4:19),
good health (Psalms 103:2-3),
to protect your children (Isaiah 49:25),
a good marriage (1 Corinthians 7:3), and
success. (Psalm 1:8)
Jesus summed it all up in Matthew 6:24-33. If we seek Him, His Kingdom and the right kind of living that comes with it, he will take care of everything. Just put your trust in Christ and the Christian lifestyle and let Jesus take care of the everything else.
